The Investor’s Regional Representative and Government Relations in Tanzania, Mr Fuad Martis, told the 'Sunday News' in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the plant would increase export revenue for Tanzanians by 200 million US dollars per year.
He said an Egyptian Investor from Polyserve Group of Companies is expected to pour 600bn/- in the project set to boost agricultural production in the country and for external market. The country’s fertilizer consumption for year 2007/2008 is estimated at 385,000 tonnes.
Mr Martis further said that establishment of the plant would create new employment opportunities for between 350 and 400Tanzanians. He said that high ranking officials from the Egyptian firm would arrive in the country the following week for final talks with other stakeholders before beginning to build the plant.
“The delegations will hold talks on March 7, in Dar es Salaam with officials from the Artumas Group Inc and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) on possibilities of signing a principal agreement of supply of gas for running the plant. "

Artumas achievement defies share price

Despite proving a “potentially world-class basin” in Tanzania and Mozambique and arranging nearby markets for the sale of area gas, the achievements of Canadian oil company Artumas has not brought buoyancy to the company’s share price.
It’s a familiar story for Canadian oil companies abroad whose shareholders here more of the sub-prime loans scandal that of the comparative worth of hydrocarbon holdings.
“Despite the strong consolidation gains made by the company in 2007, the Artumas share value has not developed in accordance with our expectations,” company president, Stephen Mason, said in a statement to shareholders Wednesday.
The company is listed in Oslo, and energy-focused burse, but its share price has not performed as expected.
The company is hoping to secure natural gas export-import approvals from Tanzania and Kenya for marine expor ts of compressed natural gas to power plants in Mombasa, Kenya, where post-election violence has shaken confidence.
An outside study of the company’s holdings shows 750 billion cubic feet of gas at its Mnazi Bay and Msimbati gas fields alone. Production tests however, confirm crude oil liquids and speak of a “a full petroleum system in the Rovuma Delta Basin”.
Gross resource potential in the Basin now points to 1.4 billion barrels after a seven-well drilling program, or 140 million bbls net to Artumas worth $714 million from one just one offshore block.
THIS STORY WAS CORRECTED ON 21 JAN, 2008, AFTER A CALL FROM A PUBLICIST REVEALED ARTUMAS WAS NOT LISTED IN TORONTO. ws@scandoil.com
