There will be a bigger roll-out if the pilot scheme is successful. Tesco's machines are fully automated. They use spectrometry and photography to identify what an object is made of before sending it to the relevant bin, where the item is shredded and compressed. This makes recycling waste easier and saves fuel because fewer journeys are needed to empty the unit as the material inside has been compressed. David North, Tesco's community and government director, said: "We are committed to helping our customers adopt green habits. They've asked us to make recycling easier, so this is what our new automated machines are designed to do." One of the reasons Scotland was chosen for the initial trial was because in January 2008 the Scottish Government announced a national zero waste strategy - committing itself to achieving a recycling rate of 70 per cent and cutting municipal waste sent to landfill by 5 per cent by 2025. Date: 17 October 2008 I thought the best good news story of the week was that of the young couple who went wombling around their home town of Petersfield to pay for their honeymoon flights. Apparently, Tesco in the town are piloting a scheme with a recycling centre which gives a reward point for every four recycled items deposited in it. So the couple toured the streets month after month armed with bags, picking up plastic bottles and tin cans to deposit and exchange for reward points. These were exchanged for Air Miles at the rate of 60 miles for every 250 points. Eventually the couple collected 36,000 Air Miles, sufficient to give them business class flights from America having travelled to the States aboard Queen Mary 2. Marvellous quote from the couple: "It did raise a smile when we were in business class on the flight back to Gatwick to think the litter louts of Petersfield had paid for the pleasure." Come on, Tesco and the rest of the supermarkets, here's the way to tackle the nation's litter problem. Just get these machines installed at all supermarket car parks and let's get collecting for our holidays. Min tru er sterkere enn noen gang vedr. TOMRA og jeg har hamstert på div. nivåer også nå i det siste. Flere hus peker på at 2009 kan bli et meget sterkt år, dette har også TOMRA selv kommunisert. Om det er endel til som mener det vil kjøperne bli flere fremover. Men, det er mye som ser meget "billig" ut, som Hermanrud sier "flere aksjer kan nesten ikke bli billigere".... God helg!
