Conexant, Tandberg Demo MPEG-4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. and ATLANTA -- Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, and TANDBERG Television (OSE:TAT), a leading provider of video compression systems, today announced that they have successfully completed MPEG-4 advanced video coding (AVC)/H.264 interoperability tests. The joint tests verified interoperability between Conexant's CX2418X family of decoder integrated circuits and the TANDBERG EN5990 MPEG-4 AVC high-definition (HD) real-time broadcast encoder. AVC technology allows digital broadcast TV service providers to improve bandwidth utilization, enabling the cost-effective delivery of a wider range of video, voice, and data broadcast programming.

"Our tests with TANDBERG Television provide broadcasters with an additional level of assurance that our respective products conform to industry standards and work together seamlessly," said Jeff Crosby, vice president of Broadband Media Processing for Conexant. "TANDBERG Television's expertise in encoding technology is recognized by broadcasters and network operators worldwide. We share their dedication to delivering standards-compliant solutions to the broadcasting community, and are pleased to have worked with them on this important endeavor."

"In order to truly deliver on its promises, MPEG-4 AVC needs to go beyond the codec and encoding box and be readily available in end-to-end systems that enable broadcasters and operators to rollout next-generation networks," said Matthew Goldman, vice president of Technology, Compression Systems, TANDBERG Television Inc. "By working with leading silicon vendors such as Conexant we are able to rapidly bring complete open systems to market and drive the paradigm shift from standard to high-definition, the first major picture quality improvement since color TV."

DVB-S2 WINS ETSI APROVAL

New Satellite Standard Offers Greater Bandwidth

Efficiency For Second Generation HDTV Services

19.04.2005

www.dvb.org

DVB is pleased to announce the ratification of its revolutionary new standard for satellite distribution, DVB-S2, by ETSI (European Telecommunication Standards Institute). Formally adopted by the DVB Steering Board last year, DVB-S2 has already generated significant industry activity, including technical and commercial trials, as well as announcements of planned services by DirecTV in the United States and BSkyB in the United Kingdom. This formal ratification is set to pave the way for further commercial implementation of services. The specification (EN 302 307) is now available for download from the ETSI website using the following URL: http://pda.etsi.org/pda/queryform.asp.

Successful technology demonstrations of second generation HDTV utilising the new DVB-S2 satellite specification coupled with the latest generation of coding technologies took place last September in Europe at IBC and earlier this year in the United States at CES. There have also been new product announcements showing a strong commitment to DVB-S2 from Advantech AMT, Conexant, EMS Technologies, Pace, Scopus, ST Microelectronics, Tandberg, Thomson and Zarlink.

Peter MacAvock, Executive Director of the DVB Project Office comments, “This formal ratification of DVB-S2 is good news for satellite broadcasters. We've already seen significant announcements from major broadcasters due to launch HD services this year and there will be more to follow.”

The new DVB-S2 specification is the most advanced satellite distribution technology available today. Designed to build upon the success of its predecessor DVB-S, the standard offers greater flexibility and better performance over existing satellites. Leading satellite broadcast operators are already migrating their satellite infrastructure from the current DVB-S standard based transmission system to the more bandwidth efficient DVB-S2 standard to offer more channels and HDTV services.

DVB-S2 benefits from recent developments in channel coding and modulation that give a 30% capacity increase over DVB-S under the same transmission conditions and more robust reception for the same spectrum efficiency. DVB-S2 is so flexible that it is able to cope with any satellite transponder characteristics, with a large variety of spectrum efficiencies (from 0.5 to 4.5 bit/s per unit bandwidth) and associated Carrier-to-Noise requirements (from –2 dB to 16 dB).

DVB-S2 has been optimised for several satellite broadband applications: broadcast services; interactive services including Internet access; digital TV contribution and satellite news gathering; data content distribution/trunking; and other professional applications.

DVB-S2 is designed to handle a variety of codecs. It is so flexible that it supports any input stream format, including continuous bit-streams, single or multiple MPEG transport streams, IP, ATM. This future proofing will allow other current and future data schemes to be used without the need for a new specification.

Sky NZ Chooses TANDBERG Television for US$4M+ Pay-TV

Satellite Network Upgrade

Increased efficiency with TANDBERG MPEG-2 video compression

will free up bandwidth for launch of new interactive and

PVR services

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oslo, Norway, 20th April 2005 - TANDBERG Television today

announced that it has been selected by New Zealand`s SKY

Network Television Limited (`SKY`) to upgrade the pay-TV

satellite broadcaster`s MPEG-2 video delivery network. In a

deal worth over US$4M, TANDBERG Television will support

SKY`s system upgrade with an 80 channel compression system

built on its low bit-rate MPEG-2 encoding engine, the

TANDBERG E577O. The contract includes a state-of the art

video head end system, local integration and a five year

support agreement.

SKY operates a sophisticated pay-TV service in New Zealand

and provides a full range of high quality local and

international programming alongside enhanced services such

as pay-per-view sports and movies, interactive

entertainment, gaming and interactive betting. The

broadcaster launched its nationwide analog direct

broadcasting satellite (DBS) service in April 1997, which

was upgraded to a TANDBERG digital encoding platform in

December 1998. Six years later SKY is once again looking to

state-of the-art technology to enable it to increase its

operational efficiency and to introduce new revenue

generating services. By deploying TANDBERG Television`s

latest MPEG-2 compression engine, SKY can take advantage of

the significant performance developments that TANDBERG

Television has built into its latest MPEG-2 systems, with

expected bandwidth savings of between 10-15%. This will

enable the broadcaster to free up bandwidth to make space

for new interactive and personal video recorder (PVR)

services, as well as to achieve a rapid return on

investment.

`Over the past six years we have worked closely with

TANDBERG Television to roll-out digital TV and interactive

services and to grow a highly successful pay-TV business in

New Zealand. We chose TANDBERG Television in the late 1990s

because the company had the best technology and real-life

experience of deploying satellite pay-TV networks. We have

chosen TANDBERG Television again because of its premium

encoding technology, the commitment and knowledge of its

team and its ability to provide us with excellent local

support through its Sydney office, and Auckland based

partner and integrator Gencom Technology,` says Charles

Ingley, Director of Technology, SKY Network Television

Limited.

TANDBERG Television has a long history of pioneering

development of video compression technologies and is

constantly pushing MPEG-2 technology to its limits to

support broadcasters and operators in their aim to achieve

maximum bandwidth management over their networks. The E5770

is able to deliver high performance compression, while

minimizing the total bit-rate through a unique multi-pass

pre-processing technique that constantly optimizes bit-rate

allocation for critical scenes, ensuring that the final

encoded video has the best possible picture quality

available.

`Our continually evolving encoding technology is at the

forefront of our success and our latest MPEG-2 compression

solutions will allow SKY to roll-out new revenue generating

services that will attract and retain subscribers and

increase ARPU, without compromising quality. We are

delighted that SKY has chosen to upgrade its system with

the latest TANDBERG Television technology and pleased to be

working closely with our New Zealand business partner

Gencom to deliver the system,` says Graham Cradock, VP and

General Manager of TANDBERG Television APAC.

BSkyB is planning to launch high definition television with the aim of boosting its subscriber base to 10 million by 2010 !!

Lucia Cockcroft looks at how ready the marketplace really is.

In some corners of the globe, the advent of high-definition television has been marked by hyperbole.

The concept behind HDTV – basically, the ability to fit more information on TV screens, allowing for far sharper picture quality – has led to claims of a "startling true-to-life realism" and a brand-new viewing experience.

In the UK, where consumers have been slower to embrace the wide-screen format, uptake of HDTV has so far lagged behind markets in the US and Asia. But with BSkyB's plans for a full launch of HDTV next year, all this could start to change.

Not adverse to a touch of hyperbole itself, Sky has trumpeted its launch of the format as "the most significant development for BSkyB's broadcast infrastructure since the launch of Sky digital in 1998".

Last week, Sony and Tandberg Television were added to the company's list of technology suppliers to boost Sky's HDTV broadcasting capabilities.

As the build-up to Sky's HDTV debut, both as a platform provider and a broadcaster, gathers momentum, it is likely the pressure on its competitors – most of which have no concrete plans to launch HDTV as yet – to follow suit will intensify.

So how will the UK roll-out of HDTV benefit advertisers and consumers? Sky may be ahead of the market, but on both the broadcast and the platform sides, rivals are already looking at where it is leading. And HDTV may also prove to be a useful weapon for television in its battle with other media.

Sky's foray into HDTV is a clear signal that it intends to fight for as many viewers as possible.

The company clearly hopes the step change in picture quality will help it achieve its target of 10 million subscribers by 2010.

As with anything, timing is key and the UK consumer's newfound love affair with the widescreen TV has been a major driver behind Sky's decision to press ahead on HDTV.

Lightning speed

Brian Sullivan, Sky's director of customer products and services, says the UK's flat-screen market is moving from a high-end, high price product to amass market technology with lightning speed.

Buying a 32-inch high definition TV cost £4,000 two years ago, he says, whereas by this Christmas, the same product will retail at under £1,000.

"We will make flat screens more attractive through HDTV and hope to benefit from that," says Sullivan.

And for the advertiser, Sullivan says the benefits are an enhanced visual experience – with the level of detail up to 4.5 times sharper than standard-definition TV sets.

Advertisers will arguably benefit from high-definition programming content, even if the ads themselves are shown in standard definition, because the audience will be more entertained and engaged.

However, the biggest benefits will come when the commercials themselves are broadcast in the new format.

Simon Bevan, head of TV for Vizeum, is enthusiastic about the long-term opportunities HDTV will bring for UK advertisers and for TV itself as it fights off competition from other media.

"Broadband offerings are starting to bundle together telephony and TV, so for Sky, HDTV is another way to protect itself from that onslaught," he says.

"HDTV provides advertisers with a great boost in both better picture quality and sound," he says.

"If your commercial message comes across in better quality and sharper focus, it becomes a different way of adding value and rewarding the viewer. It will be particularly good for advertisers looking for a cinematic feel."

But Bevan thinks full-on interest from advertisers will not be ignited until around the time of digital switchover – expected by the end of the decade – and he also highlights the costs involved for advertisers filming in HDTV, with its requirements for a special camera.

"Advertisers aren't going to invest unless the majority of commercial suppliers are broadcasting in HDTV and I think it will take a couple of years before the advertising industry wakes up to the HDTV world."

But Bevan is quick to highlight the key importance of HDTV to Sky's business offering, particularly as the broadcaster is introducing its own HDTV receiver with Sky + capability, initially to be manufactured by Thomson.

"It's another feather in their cap, to go alongside Sky +, and one of the main advantages is that it will have the bandwidth," he says. "Whereas Freeview may not have the bandwidth to support HDTV channels, Sky can use it to accelerate growth."

Bevan stresses that the cost to consumers mean HDTV is destined for a slow uptake.

"In the short term, it is only those who are more technically savvy who will embrace HTDV," he says. "However, as Sky makes it available, the price of technology will come down and uptake will increase."

Andy Benningfield, head of TV for BJK&E, is less optimistic about the medium's potential to take off, despite the platform's ability to transmit high quality ads. "The HDTV thing will be evolution, not revolution. At the moment, only 1.3% of all TV sales in the UK are HDTV-compatible.

A lot of people will consider the current batch of TV technology to be of sufficiently high quality and are likely to question whether they need to spend another thousand pounds or two on yet another TV," he says.

For this reason, he says HDTV will remain a niche that will grow steadily over the next few years, not making headway until analogue is turned off.

Benningfield says advertisers currently have more pressing worries.

"To most advertisers there are far more pressing issues, such as PVR penetration and clutter. And we already have a good quality picture in the form of digital. I think HDTV is a stage beyond advertisers and consumers at the moment."

Step ahead

The view that HDTV does not yet feature strongly on most advertisers' radars – and that perhaps Sky's launch is one step ahead of the market – is shared wholeheartedly by Andy Zonfrillo, MindShare's managing partner for TV buying.

He says: "Advertisers aren't going to invest heavily behind creative work to take advantage of HDTV, when there will be so few HDTV sets available in the UK. "Neither does Zonfrillo conform to the view that analogue switch-off will accelerate interest in HDTV: "After analogue switch-off, you can still use your existing TV to get Freeview, cable or satellite – if you've not already upgraded and have a choice, why not spend far less money by getting digital?"

But Sky is not alone in looking at the potential of HDTV.

NTL is also gearing up for HDTV – last month the cable operator began a trial of on-demand HDTV channels using broadband internet infrastructure. The idea is to provide video-on-demand HDTV services on this platform, making full use of its existing network, which serves 7.9 million homes Among most UK broadcasters, the general outlook seems to be "wait and see". The exception is the BBC, which aims to produce all programmes to high definition standards by 2010.

A BBC spokesman explains that the corporation won't move to HDTV immediately, because very few licence fee payers would derive any benefit if they did so.

"We do think HDTV is going to become a consumer reality in the future and we have to plan for the fact that this could be the next big thing," she says.

"With that in mind, we are making plans that take account of HDTV as much as possible. We could be interested in running a technical trial next year on digital satellite at around about the same time as Sky launches its HDTV service."

Early days

But for most others, there is nothing solid. Channel 4, Five and ITV all confirm they have no concrete plans to enter the HDTV arena just yet.

Steve White, head of channel operations for C4, says it's early days. "Although we have no plans for it at the moment, we would expect programme production to move to high definition quality gradually.

"HDTV technology is new; standards are only just being settled. Broadcasters have to weigh up the business model carefully: the cost of technology, bandwidth and the tools needed – it's a huge change and a lot of the technology is very new.

"There is definitely great interest in what Sky is doing and a lot of activity from broadcasters behind the scenes but in general no commitments to launch services. I expect HDTV to become standard by 2010 but not before then"

The waiting game is also being played by ITV – which says rather vaguely that it is considering HDTV but has no firm plans – and Five. Five already airs CSI and Home and Away, both imports, in HD, and David Burge, controller of Five's broadcast services, says more and more programmes will be rolled out in the format.

Stumbling block Nevertheless, the channel seems to be in no hurry to commit itself just yet and Burge cites cost and lack of bandwidth as the stumbling block.

"We are going to be watching Sky with interest to see what the take-up is and when it comes to a point where there is no cost disadvantage to a producer, we will certainly consider it," he says.

For advertisers and broadcasters then, HDTV hovers in the background, but for most is still too new – and anticipated take-up too far in the future – to warrant firm planning.

Sky may be way ahead of the curve but there is little doubt that HDTV is on its way.

What is HDTV?

It's the next generation of digital TV, delivering exceptionally fine picture detail together with an improvement in sound quality. HDTV can provide over four times more data on a display screen than standard definition broadcast. Sky's HDTV channel line-up, to launch in 2006, will include a combo of sports, movies, entertainment and documentaries.

The global HDTV market

● In the US, where the market for large and flat-screen TVs is insatiable, over 10 million households are already taking HDTV services. Driven by coverage of sports such as football and baseball, the platform has firmly embedded itself in the US TV market, both in and out of home. There are an estimated 6,000 sports bars around the USA showing HDTV.

● The service is set to launch in China in 2008 to coincide with the Olympics.

● In mainland Europe, where Sky, Premiere and TPS have committed to introducing HDTV services in the next few years, over 17 million houses are predicted to boast HDTV-capable TV sets by 2008.

BREAKING NEWS !

TANDBERG Television and Microsoft Sign Agreement for IPTV Collaboration !

Enhanced video encoding solution enables service providers to improve picture-in-picture (PIP) quality and help reduce Internet Protocol television costs.

i-Newswire, 2005-06-08 - TANDBERG Television and Microsoft Corp. today announced that they have entered into a development and cooperation agreement to integrate TANDBERG Television’s encoding technologies with Microsoft® TV’s award-winning Internet Protocol Television ( IPTV ) Edition software platform. As a further demonstration of the collaboration between the two companies, TANDBERG Television will enhance its EN5900 range of advanced video encoders that has been integrated with the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform by incorporating picture-in-picture ( PIP ) generation functionality into the encoder itself. The enhanced solution represents the next step in TANDBERG Television and Microsoft’s long-term relationship and demonstrates the companies’ commitment to collaborate on ways to propel the IPTV industry forward.

Enabling PIP functionality without requiring additional hardware-based tuners in the set-top box is one of the unique features of Microsoft TV IPTV Edition. By incorporating PIP capabilities into the encoding solution, TANDBERG Television and Microsoft TV further maximize system efficiencies, because PIP encoding is handled at the encoder. This eliminates processing demands on the acquisition server, which otherwise would need to decode and re-encode the PIP stream, thus reducing the overall cost of the solution and improving the user experience.

The PIP stream will be generated from the same video source and will consist of a lower-resolution version encoded at a much lower bit-rate than the main stream. Resolution reduction is achieved within the encoder and no additional external components are needed. This solution provides the ability to offer very efficient system design including reliable and effective fail-over to ensure high availability of the TV channel.

At SUPERCOMM in Chicago, TANDBERG Television will have a live, fully integrated IPTV demonstration combining the TANDBERG EN5290 standard definition encoder for Windows Media® 9 Series ( proposed SMPTE VC-1 ) with Microsoft TV IPTV Edition. This demonstration will showcase the outstanding video quality produced by TANDBERG Television’s superior advanced encoding combined with the next-generation user experiences enabled by the Microsoft software platform.

“To deliver on the promise of IPTV, network operators need to not only give their subscribers the most compelling and competitive digital TV offerings, but also maintain high service quality and low operational costs,” said Tim Sheppard, director of strategic development at TANDBERG Television. “By adding PIP capabilities to our encoding solutions, TANDBERG Television continues to innovate and offer more advanced digital TV technology while keeping the needs and priorities of service providers in mind.”

“Our long-term collaboration with TANDBERG Television is the result of our shared passion for IPTV,” said Phil Corman, director of worldwide partner development for the Microsoft TV Division at Microsoft. “By adding PIP functionality to TANDBERG’s real-time encoders, TANDBERG Television and Microsoft TV take another step toward advancing the next-generation television capabilities of IPTV.”

Microsoft TV IPTV Edition is a comprehensive software platform that allows broadband service providers to deliver compelling digital TV services using their existing IP networks. Leading service providers worldwide — including Bell Canada, BellSouth Corp., Reliance Infocomm Limited, SBC Communications Inc., Swisscom/Bluewin and Telecom Italia — are conducting trials or planning to deploy IPTV services based on the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition platform.

Bra kontraktsinngang i TAT

under telekommunikasjonsmessen Supercomm i Chicago i forrige

annonserte at selskapet ville utsette lanseringen av

IPTV-tjenester basert på Microsoft-programvare til 2006 fra

andre halvår 2005.

Tandberg Television <TAT.OL>, som leverer Windows Media

9-baserte omkoderløsninger til Swisscom, uttalte til Reuters

tidligere i juni at forsinkelsen trolig skyldes Microsoft og

digitale videoopptak.

Kaufman gjentar en kjøpsanbefaling på Scientific-Atlanta.

HARMONIC-AVTALE

For Harmonic <HLIT.O> er anbefalingen "hold".

MPEG-4-kontrakter for Harmonic, særlig gitt konkurrenten

messen for sine EN5900-omkodere.

Title: Contract with large symbolic value in US Cable

Company: Tandberg TV

Recommendation: Accumulate

Share price: NOK 77.50

Target: NOK 90.00

Tandberg TV today announced that the company has won a contract with

Sunflower Broadband in the USA. The contract size is very limited (less than

USD 0.5 million), and the deliveries have already been made. More important,

however, is the significant symbolic value of the contract. At the Q1

presentation, Tandberg TV management promised that we would see the first

revenue synergies of the N2 Broadband acquisition during Q2. With today's

announcement, this promise has been kept.

Conclusion: The significance of today's announcement is more symbolic than

financial. This is the first revenue synergy related to the N2 BB

acquisition, and we are eager to see what will be Tandberg TV's next move in

this market. The contract is also a continuation of a very fine trend in

terms of order announcements.

Key issues: FRA FIRST

Expecting a strong quarter - orders turning into revenues

Tandberg TV is about to finish a quarter with exceptionally strong order

inflow. The contracting has been on the highest level in recent history, and

orders have been won across segments and product lines. While there is no

1:1 relation, we expect the high activity to materialize in revenues already

in Q2. We raise our revenue estimate for the quarter to mNOK 441.

Looking for clues on the large tenders

Tandberg TV may well continue to deliver good results based on continued

inflow of modest-sized orders. However, in order to verify its competitive

position, it is crucial for the company to be the winner of at least one

large contract in the US during the year. While the highest probability for

large contract wins is probably found within the satellite DTH-segment, the

IPTV segment also continues to be of interest. BellSouth is Tandberg TV's

most likely customer.

Attractively valued on absolute and relative basis

Tandberg TV is currently trading at EV/ EBIT 11 (2006), and PE (recurring)

16 (2006). In a comparison to its own history, this is modest. Also in a

reference to Harmonic and mid-cap US communication companies, Tandberg TV is

well off.

Increasing target price to NOK 95 (90). Maintaining Accumulate.

After the Q1 earnings release, our faith in Tandberg TV's ability to deliver

has been strengthened through the strong order inflow. Further, the local

stock market has appreciated significantly. We thus increase our target

price to NOK 95 (90). At the same time, however, the TAT-share has also

appreciated. We thus stick to our Accumulate recommendation.

Title: Harmonic's PW of limited significance for Tandberg TV

Company: Tandberg TV

Recommendation: Accumulate

Share price: NOK 82.75

Target: NOK 95.00

Tandberg TV's main competitor, Harmonic, late last night warned that its

results for Q2 will fall short of expectations. The company now expects

revenues for Q2 of USD 56 to 60 million, vs previous guidance of USD 73-77

million. The company further expects weak gross margins and a negative

operating result.

According to Harmonic, the reason for the shortfall is slow orders of

digital headend systems from domestic cable operators in May and June. The

warning is as such related to product lines relevant for Tandberg TV.

Despite its recent efforts, however, Tandberg TV's presence in US cable is

still limited.

Conclusion: Harmonic's ugly profit warning is mainly related to a segment

with weak Tandberg TV presence. Further, Tandberg TV has on previous

occasions delivered strong results despite Harmonic weakness. We do thus not

put too much emphasis into the competitor's warning. We will, however, be

looking for clues in today's conference call.

Title: Disastrous Harmonic gross margin, losing out in competition

Company: Tandberg TV

Recommendation: Accumulate

Share price: NOK 81.25

Target: NOK 90.00

In the conference call following it's profit warning, Harmonic added some

color to the statements in the initial release. Among the issues discussed

in the call, we will emphasize two in particular:

* Despite a decreasing share of low margin third party

products, Harmonic's gross margin will fall from the very low 38% level

reported in Q1. According to Harmonic management, the reason for this

development is the lower sales volumes, increasing the sourcing cost per

unit.

* The competition in US cable is increasing. According to CEO

Tony Lay, there are several new entrants fighting for business. This

increases the time that MSOs need to make purchasing decisions. The CEO does

not mention anybody but Scientific Atlanta by name. However, as SFA can

hardly be denoted a new entrant, we will not rule out the option that

Tandberg TV's aggressive pursuit of US market shares can be one of the

reasons for Harmonic's problems.

Conclusion: We believe Harmonic's problems are largely company specific.

While the current development in the gross margin may well be related to a

decline in sales volumes, it is well justified to question whether there is

anything fundamentally wrong about the company's product design. In any

case, we still have faith in our Q2 gross margin estimate for Tandberg TV,

implying a moderate expansion. As for the situation in US cable, the market

does not seem vibrant at the moment. In terms of entry opportunities,

however, the situation may well be beneficiary for Tandberg TV. In summary,

we judge Harmonic's conference call to be neutral for the TAT-share.

Tandberg Television legger frem sine tall i morgen. Vi forventer at selskapet legger

frem en omsetning på NOK 447 mill, hvilket innebærer at vi ligger over konsensus. På

kursmål på NOK 100.

FIRST OM TAT:

Key Issues:

2Q Revenues above expectations. Slightly declining gross

margins-not dramatic

Flat outlook for 3Q supporting our short term estimates.

Completion of N2 Broadband integration process increases external focus

in US. Seasonally weaker quarter expected in EMEA

While share price appreciation has limited the upside somewhat,

Tandberg TV is still attractively priced vs own history. Absolute

multiples give room for further expansion

CHANGES IN ESTIMATES/ TARGET PRICE/ RECOMMENDATION

Marginal estimate adjustments

Target price to NOK 100 (95) to reflect market multiple expansion.

Reiterating Accumulate

INVESTMENT CASE

The market for Digital TV infrastructure is in rapid recovery

after several tough years. Tandberg TV is progressively building

confidence in its ability to capitalize on the development, including

its technological leadership related to new encoding technologies.
