Aker Yards to build four container vessels for König & Cie.

 

WISMAR / ROSTOCK-WARNEMÜNDE, 20 JUNE 2005: Aker Yards has been awarded contracts to build four container vessels for König & Cie. GmbH und Co. KG in Hamburg. The vessels are of the type Aker CS 2700. The total contract value is approximately EUR 170 million.

 

König & Cie. have so far in 2005 ordered four 2,700 TEU container vessels for delivery in 2007 and four 1,700 TEU container vessels for delivery in 2007 and 2008 from Aker Yards. The order reserve of the two German shipyards comprising Aker Ostsee is currently 44 vessels. The last delivery will be in the third quarter of 2008. So far in 2005, 27 vessels with a total contract value of approximately EUR 960 million have been ordered.

Aker Yards fortsatt med

 

Aker Yards er fortsatt med i konkurransen om de massive nybyggingsordrene fra det brasilianske statsoljeselskapet Petrobras, etter at listen over aktuelle verft er kuttet ned.

 

Totalt har Petrobras et planlagt nybyggingsprogram på 42 skip med en samlet verdi på omkring 1,9 milliarder dollar, som verdens verft nå konkurrer om. I utgangspunktet var 10 verftsgrupper prekvalifisert til anbudet, men ifølge TradeWinds er feltet nå kuttet ned til fire grupperinger.

 

De fire gjenværende i anbudskonkurransen er Camargo Correa-konsortiet med japanske Mitsui i ryggen, Rio Grande-kosrtiet med støtte av japanske IHI, Aker Yards sammen med brasilianske Queiroz Galvao og Sermetal-verftet i samarbeid med sørkoreanske Huyndai Heavy.

 

Petrorbas skal ifølge en pressemelding ha et møte i dag for å vurdere om flere av de seks andre grupperingen fortsatt er aktuelle på grunna v den enorme størrelsen på nybyggingsprogrammet.

 

Det er ventet at de utvalgte verftene må legge inn anbud på tankdelen av kontraktene i begynnelsen av august. Første fase er ifølge TradeWinds på 22 skip med en samlet verdi på 1,1 milliarder dollar.

 

Nybyggingsprogrammet består av suezmax, aframax and panamax-tankskip i tillegg til gass og produkttankere.

AKY - AKER YARDS TO BUILD TRAILER ROPAX FOR BRITTANY FERRIES

Aker Yards and the French company Brittany Ferries have

signed a contract for the building of a ropax vessel worth

EUR 80 million for delivery in autumn 2007. The contract

includes an option of a similar vessel.

 

The vessel will be delivered from the yard in Helsinki,

while the blocks will be fabricated mainly in Rauma.

 

`Having delivered two car ferries for Brittany Ferries in

the beginning of the 1990`s, we are now very pleased to

renew our relationship with the company`, said Yrjö Julin,

President of Aker Finnyards and responsible for Cruise &

Ferries in Aker Yards.

 

The trailer ropax is designed to carry road cargo vehicles

between France and The United Kingdom at a speed of 23

knots. The 165 m long and 26.8 m wide vessel has 2,2

kilometres of vehicle deck space and 120 cabins.

 

The contract is subject to final confirmation of buyers

financing.

Key Issues:

 

The order intake has continued to impress through 2005. We see high yard utilization from the second half of 2005. Our worries regarding yard utilization at the Helsinki yard is still an issue, but in less extent due to the two last contracts in Finland.

 

Aker Yards has great capacity flexibility and has an earnings capacity that can bring profit back to the heights seen in 2002/2003. Cruise is the most important segment for Aker Yards and the current strong trend in this industry bodes well for future earnings.

 

The supply market, high dayrates will keep the ordering activity strong.

2Q 'short and sweet':

 

AKY - 2Q 2005 - ORDER BACKLOG MORE THAN DOUBLED IN ONE YEAR

 

Aker Yards ASA reported an EBITDA of NOK 240 million for

the second quarter of 2005, which corresponds to an EBITDA

margin of 5.9 percent. The margin year to date is 5.3

percent. The order intake in the second quarter was NOK 9.3

billion, giving a total order backlog of NOK 36.3 billion

at the end of the quarter, representing 110 vessels to be

built at the groups` 13 yards.

 

Aker Yards confirms its guidance for 2005 that foresees a

growth in revenues to a level in the range of NOK 16-18 bn,

and aims to have an EBITDA result somewhat above the level

of 2004.

 

Aker Yards had revenues of NOK 4 053 million in the second

quarter of 2005, compared with NOK 3 317 million in the

corresponding period of 2004. Growing activity in all three

business areas are contributing to the positive

development. The Group saw revenues of 7 491 for the first

half of 2005.

 

Order intake in the second quarter was NOK 9 328 million,

of which Merchant Vessels contributed half. The order

backlog at the close of the second quarter was NOK 36 305

million, compared with NOK 16 458 million at the end of

second quarter 2004. The order book is at a level close to

three times the revenues of 2004. The order backlog

continues to improve in all business areas.

 

Aker Yards achieved an EBITDA result of NOK 240 million in

the second quarter of 2005, compared with NOK 216 million

in the corresponding quarter of 2004. The EBITDA margin for

the second quarter of 2005 was 5.9 percent. In the first

six months of 2005, EBITDA was 399 million, compared to 438

in 2004.

 

For the full year 2005, Aker Yards foresees a growth in

revenues to a level in the range of NOK 16-18 bn, and aims

to have an EBITDA result somewhat above the level of 2004.

Jeg saxer fra en annen tråd:

Jeg har lest andre steder at Røkke (KIR) kjøpte KVI i sin tid for det som tilsvarte 1800,- på tidspunktet for KVI -> AKVER/AKY ut fra dagens noe kompliserte selskapssammenslutning og fusjoner innen KIR-systemet. Ryktene sier at KIR ble meget vred da likene ramlet ut av skapene og Tønsethisme ble et begrep på samme måte som "en Mong" etc...

 

Nå ser reprisingen ut til å være på gang. Gode gamle "Turnaround" aka "turnips" på gamle StockTalk har forøvrig glimret med sitt fravær.

 

Selv har jeg is i magen og har sittet siden godt før ombyttet KVI -> AKVER+AKY. Æ e skræmt over 4x som nå nærmer seg 5x innen "gammel" teknologi.

Aker Yards-sjef Karl Erik Kjelstad kan ta helg med god samvittighet. Aksjekursen fløy til ny all time high.

 

- Det vi er fornøyd med er at vi har økt ordreinngangen, derav fått fullere kapasitetsutnyttelse, og til slutt klart å skape bedre resultater ut av det. Vi er godt fornøyd med andre kvartal, sier Aker Yards-sjef Karl Erik Kjelstad til Aftenposten.

 

Voldsom vekst.

 

For å starte med ordreinngangen. Den er åtte ganger høyere enn ved tilsvarende kvartal i fjor. For i andre kvartal i fjor var ordreinngangen på magre 1,1 milliarder kroner, mot 9,3 milliarder kroner i årets andre kvartal. Driftsresultatet til Akers Yards, som kontrolleres av Kjell Inge Røkkes Aker, har i samme periode økt fra 112 til 168 millioner kroner, godt over forventningene på 146 millioner kroner.

 

Etter å ha presentert resultatene i Oslo i går tidlig, hastet Kjelstad og resten av Aker Yards-ledelsen til London for å møte britiske investorer. I tillegg til å legge frem tallene for britene, kunne Kjelstad glede dem med at Aker Yards hadde lagt på seg nær 15 prosent etter fem timers handel. Til slutt endte Aker Yards-aksjen opp 13,2 prosent til 327 kroner pr. aksje. Det tilsvarer en kursoppgang på 118 prosent så langt år.

 

- Er du fornøyd med kursutviklingen så langt i år?

 

- Jeg har selv puttet en del av mine sparepenger i Aker Yards. Jeg er fornøyd med avkastningen. For øvrig overlater jeg til aktørene i aksjemarkedet å kommentere utviklingen, sa Kjelstad til Aftenposten før Børsen åpnet.

 

Han kunne i går oppjustere anslagene for årets driftsinntekter fra 16 til 18 milliarder kroner. Tidligere har Aker Yards bare sagt at årets driftsinntekter skulle overstige fjorårets tall på 12,5 milliarder kroner. Men målet er å fortsette veksten på den såkalte topplinjen i regnskapet videre.

 

- Styreformann Leif-Arne Langøy kunne i forbindelse med generalforsamlingen til Aker fortelle om ett til tre nye verft ved årsskiftet. Vil han ha sine ord behold?

 

- Vi har ambisjoner om å videreutvikle virksomheten vår. Og det kan innebære at vi øker kapasiteten, sier Kjelstad.

 

Analytiker-jubel.

 

En rekke finansanalytikere er meget fornøyd med resultatene og fremtidsutsiktene. Nå varsler de at resultatestimatene skal jekkes opp.

 

- Det var en meget sterk rapport. Det vil komme betydelige estimatrevideringer etter dette når selskapet drar opp marginer og topplinjen såpass mye, sier analytiker Anders Rosenlund i ABG Sundal Collier til TDN Finans.

 

Arne Egil Rønning i Fondsfinans ser også meget lyst på fremtidsutsiktene.

 

- De tjener bra nå også, men det er grunn til å tro at de kommer til å tjene veldig mye penger i 2006 og 2007, sier han til Reuters.

 

Analytikerne var også fornøyd med at Aker Yards gjorde enkelte spådommer til skamme.

 

- Det har vært mye tvil rundt Aker Yards blant dem som har trodd at selskapet har fylt ordreboken med lave marginer, men de viste jo i dag at de ikke har gjort det, sier Enskilda-analytiker Terje Fatnes til Reuters.

Røkkes verft Aker Yards får stadig flere oppdrag. Ordreinngangen i andre kvartal 2005 var på 9,3 milliarder kroner. Det gir en samlet ordrereserve på 36,3 milliarder kroner ved utgangen av juni, en dobling i forhold i fjor.Ordrereserven omfatter 110 fartøy som skal bygges ved konsernets 13 skipsverft.

 

Aker Yards ASA hadde et driftsresultat (EBITDA) på 240 millioner kroner for andre kvartel 2005. Det tilsvarer en EBITDA-margin på 5,9 prosent for perioden.

 

Aker Yards hadde driftsinntekter på drøyt 4 milliarder kroner i andre kvartal i år. Tilsvarende tall for andre kvartal 2004 var omtrent 3,3 milliarder kroner. De samlede driftsinntektene for første halvår 2005 var på nesten 7,5 milliarder kroner.

 

Ifølge Aker Yards bidrar høyere aktivitetsnivåer i alle konsernets tre forretningsområder til den positive utviklingen.

 

Aker Yards fastholder sine resultatutsikter for 2005 og forventer en vekst i driftsinntekter til et nivå på mellom 16 og 18 milliarder kroner.

Aker Yards has signed a contract with Island Offshore

Shipholding LP, a company within the Island Offshore Group

in Ulsteinvik, Norway, to deliver a UT 776 E platform

supply vessel. The value of the contract is NOK 232

million. The contract also includes an optional agreement

for a similar vessel.

 

Lars Stärk, Managing Director of Aker Brevik is very

pleased with this new contract: `We have won an important

PSV contract. This proves that we are competitive in a

market that continues to develop positively`, says Stärk.

 

This is the fifteenth contract between the shipowner,

Island Offshore Group in Ulsteinvik and Aker Yards. The

hull for the PSV will be built in Romania. Delivery of the

vessel is scheduled for December 2006.

19/08-2005 11:30:58: AKY - AKER YARDS TO BUILD PSV FOR OLYMPIC SHIPPING

Aker Yards has signed a contract worth approximately NOK 150 million with Olympic Shipping to build a Platform Supply Vessel of the MT 6009 design. Delivery is scheduled for December 2006.

 

`We are pleased to have received another newbuilding order from Olympic Shipping,` comments Roy Reite, in charge of Aker Yards` Offshore & Specialized Vessels business area. `This contract confirms our long and good relationship with

Olympic Shipping, which currently has two vessels under construction at our Yards`.

BN 11:49 Venezuela Expects Oil Exports to China to Soar (Update1)

Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Petroleos de Venezuela SA, South America's largest oil company, expects its exports to China to rise fivefold by 2012 as it seeks to lessen its dependence on the U.S. market. Sales of crude oil and petroleum products to China may top 300,000 barrels within years, the state oil company said in a press statement. In an interview, Petroleos de Venezuela board member Asdrubal Chavez said the company expects to reach the 300,000-barrel a day mark by 2012. ``China has many opportunities for us,'' said Chavez, who is a cousin of President Hugo Chavez. Board member Chavez is accompanying Energy and Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez on a tour of China and Japan, which started on Saturday. President Chavez has repeatedly said that he wants the South American country, the world's fifth-largest oil exporter, to diversify its customers and reduce its dependence on the U.S. market. The U.S. currently takes about 60 percent of Venezuela's daily exports of about 2 million barrels a day. The South American country's oil and product exports to China average only 12,300 barrels a day in 2004. The majority of Venezuela's exports to China as of now consist of Orimulsion, a boiler fuel alternative, Chavez said. The fuel is comprised of bitumen and water, and is burned by power plants to generate electricity.

 

Tanker Transport

The distance between China and Venezuela remains an obstacle for exports, Chavez said. Tankers need about 43 to 44 days to reach China from Venezuela if they go via Africa, he said. From Panama, the trip would be 24 to 25 days, he said. Venezuela is already exploring constructing pipelines across Colombia or Panama to shorten shipping times. Most large tankers can't use the Panama Canal due to size restrictions. Petroleos de Venezuela today opened a sales office in China, its first in Asia. The office will be used to evaluate opportunities in exploration and production as well as refining, Ramirez, who doubles as Petroleos de Venezuela's president, said in a statement. ``This office will also strengthen ties between the two countries,'' he said. Petroleos de Venezuela also plans to spend up to $2.2 billion on tankers through 2012 to double its fleet and enable it to send more oil to Asia, Chavez said. The company wants to buy 42 tankers, including at least 14 super tankers, Chavez said. Petroleos de Venezuela currently has 21 tankers, enabling it to carry 26 percent of the country's oil exports. ``With the new tankers, we'll be able to carry 45 percent of exports in 2012,'' Chavez said. Venezuela plans to spend $56 billion through 2012 to about double the country's oil production capacity to 5.1 million barrels a day. The country is now producing about 2.6 million barrels a day. Aker Promar er er med i anbudsrunden for kjempekontrakten for brasilianske Petrobras. Det er morsomt å tenke på at Petroleos i Venezuela ønsker omtrent like mange supertankere innenfor den samme tidsperioden. Man kan jo selv tenke seg hvor mye ledig vertfskapasitet vil bli verdt med tiden :)

Verdens største cruiseskip Freedom of the Seas ble skipet ut av Aker Yards skipsverft i Turku igår.

Freedom of the Seas er på 158.000 tonn, 339 meter lang og 38,6 meter bred.

 

RCCL overtar skipet i april 2006. Dette er det første av i alt tre skip Aker Yards skal bygge for RCCL.

 

Freedom of the Seas har plass til 5740 passasjerer. Skipet skal gå i Karibia, med utgangspunkt fra Miami.

Aker Yards har uttalt at de ønsker å ekspandere til to-tre nye lokasjoner i løpet av året. Fortrinnsvis i land hvor kostnadene er lave.

 

  • Det mest opplagte prosjektet har vel vært Brasil, ifm. Petrobras' store tankskipsprogram.
     
  • TradeWinds har tidligere skrevet at Aker har vært i forhandlinger om å overta Lloyd Werft i Bremerhaven, på Nordsjøkysten.
     
  • Finansavisen skriver fredag (27. aug) at Aker Yards også har sett på det stalige Gdansk-verftet som nå skal privatiseres. (Artikkelen er basert på denne artikkelen i Warsaw Business Journal.) Det spekuleres dog i om Aker kun vil bruke verftet som en underleverandør av skrogkomponenter, framfor å gjøre en direkte investering.

30/08-2005 12:04:03: AKY - HELSINKI YARD TO BECOME A FERRY BUILDER

 

The Board of Aker Finnyard has taken measures to make its

Helsinki yard one of the most cost effective yards for building ferries in the industry.

 

The site in Helsinki has become too small to meet the demand for today´s ever growing cruise ship sizes, and expansion of the dry dock is not possible, given the location in the yard in the middle of the city of Helsinki. The activity at the yard has been low since the last cruise ship was delivered in February 2004.

 

As Aker Yards however is determined to continue shipbuilding activities in Helsinki, the plan is to focus on the assembly and outfitting of ferries. Two contracts for building of ferries were recently signed with Tallink and Brittany Ferries.

The steel blocks have already for some time been floated on barges to Helsinki from the Turku and Rauma units. The plan is also to move the management, design, sales and procurement functions now in Helsinki to Turku. Negotiations will be carried out with the employee representatives as to the execution of the changes. Aker Yards´ three Finnish yards in Helsinki, Rauma and Turku have since the beginning of 2005 been operating as one company and one organization, where both work and people have been flexibly shared between the three sites. Investments have been made in a new block factory in Turku, where 200 new employees will be recruited by the end of 2005. When recruiting in other units of Aker Finnyards, the personnel affected in Helsinki will be given priority.

Aker Yards to build Sub Sea IMR Vessel

 

Aker Yards has signed a contract worth approximately NOK 480 million to build a Sub Sea IMR (inspection, maintenance and repair) Vessel for Østensjø Rederi AS. The vessel will be delivered summer 2007.

 

Main duties for the new vessel will be inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR), including tasks within ROV operations and light construction work. The vessel will be equipped with two hangars with a totally integrated module handling tower, skidding systems and Launch & Recovery systems for Work ROV's. All the main operations will take place inside the closed hangars.

 

Østensjø Rederi AS has been assigned a five years contract with 3 x 1 years option by DeepOcean AS and Statoil. Deep Ocean is in the process of being listed at the Oslo Stock Exchange.

 

The owner and chairman of the board of Østensjø Rederi Mr Johannes Østensjø states in a comment: "Aker Yards was chosen based on their excellent execution of their projects and their track record for delivering on time."

 

Roy Reite in charge of Aker Yards' Offshore & Specialized Vessels business area, says: " I am very pleased that Østensjø Rederi again has placed a newbuilding contract with Aker Yards. This contract confirms that the market for specialized vessels is continuing to develop positively." The last vessel delivered to Østensjø from Aker Yards was in 1997. Mr Reite continues: " This vessel is unique by the combination of its size, that the design, the owner and the builder is Norwegian and that it will be operating for Statoil."
